I charge $1500 for my services as a doula. This price includes two comprehensive prenatal visits, on-call care to answer any questions or soothe anxiety, continuous care throughout labor, and three postpartum visits. $750 is due upon contract signing, and the remaining $750 is due at the first prenatal visit.
Let’s break down what you’ll get for the price:
Prenatal visits
During our prenatal visits I will go over any particular points of anxiety or concern with you and any other members of your birth party. We will go over birth plans and what to pack. I will share resources with you curated to your concerns as well as mental health screening tools. I also provide structure and guidance for a postpartum plan. I am on-call to review, brainstorm, clarify, or encourage you in the implementation of these resources.
On-Call Care
This aspect is what I charge the most for. Lots of doulas joke that they’ll do the birth for free but will charge for being on-call. Therefore, I recommend that you take advantage of the offer. If you’re feeling anxious or alone, reach out to me. I’m not just on-call for the labor, I’m on call for you.
Labor Support
Continuous labor support is a critical role of birth doulas. During your labor I will be present to provide emotional, physical, and practical support for you and your birth partner(s). I come well equipped with expert training through DONA International, useful tools, and the calm demeanor that only comes with the knowledge that you’ve got this. As a doula I do not guarantee the outcome of your birth. I cannot guarantee an intervention-free birth. However, studies show that birthing families with a doula have significantly higher rates of satisfaction with their birth experience.
Postpartum Visits
I provide three postpartum visits to check in on the wellness of the whole family unit. These visits can look very different from family to family or even week to week. But, typically these visits will look like such:
In the first postpartum visit I will stop by to check how mom is feeling and recovering. During this visit I may do some washing up such as dishes, laundry, or meal planning (trust me, you don’t want me actually cooking for you!). We may discuss breastfeeding and proper latch, or techniques to help the baby with gas. The other two visits might look very similar, but I’m not surprised when mom just wants to have coffee and a chance to talk about “normal adult things”. We also take these visits to review the postpartum plans made during the prenatal visits to fit the needs of now.
I do not offer more than three postpartum visits, but I’m more than happy to connect you to local postpartum doulas.
